PHOTOGRAPHER'S FAQS

I get a lot of emails from photographers about my business and my philosophy when it comes to photographing couples, so I thought I'd include some of the most frequently asked questions here!

WHAT kind of equipment do you use?

I'm a digital photographer that dabbles in film for fun! Here's a list of what's in my bag for weddings + portraits // canon 5d mark iii, canon 5d mark ii (backup), canon AE-1(for when I want to shoot film,) canon 50mm f/1.2, sigma 35mm f/1.4, canon 600EX-RT speedlights,  (2) 32 GB SD cards, (2) 32 GB CF cards, (2) fully charged camera batteries, (2) canon battery chargers, a crap-ton of AA batteries, a prism and a copper ring (for fun creative shots!) mints, advil, + business cards

I purchase all of my gear from either Amazon or B&H photo. When I'm in a bind or find myself out of town needing additional SD or CF cards, I purchase them from BestBuy

how many weddings do you shoot per year?

This year I shot 25 weddings but next year I'm hoping to stay somewhere around 22. The Washington DC wedding season begins in Spring and ends in fall but since I do travel to shoot weddings, I find myself shooting in some of the warmer states in the winter time, too.

can i second shoot for you?

I like to stick to the team I'm familiar and comfortable with but sometimes, I need an extra hand! If you're interested in second shooting, and if you'd like to make yourself available to other photographers in the DMV, feel free to add your information to the list!

who designed your website?

Mattie Tiegreen of Green Tie Studios designed my branding (logo, submarks, patterns, business cards, thank you notes, etc) and my website. She is one of the raddest, most hardworking and talented women in the business and I highly recommend her.

HOW DO YOU DELIVER IMAGES TO CLIENTS?

I use Pixieset to show my clients' their on-line gallery first, and then I send a USB in the mail. I love Pixieset because the client can create favorites lists, order prints, and share to social media.

DID YOU GO TO college FOR PHOTOGRAPHY?

Nope. When I was in 7th grade, I took a film photography class and for my graduation from middle school, my parents bought me my first 35mm film camera. I played around with it for awhile but it wasn't until college, when I received my first DSLR that I became hooked. After a lot of practice, you-tube videos, and online courses + tutorials, I landed my first job working as a photographer for our school's newspaper, The Stylus, eventually becoming the Senior Photography Editor. After graduation, I joined AmeriCorps where I only received a living stipend for my services. I knew I had to make some extra money so I started shooting for friends and posted an ad on craigslist! I booked my first shoot that year and have been working towards my business ever since!

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN SHOOTING? DO YOU HAVE AN OFFICE?

I've been shooting weddings for the last 6 years. I used to teach photography but decided to focus my love and attention to my business full time as of last year. I have an office in Old Town, right off of King Street!
