Hey There! Thanks so much for choosing LLP to photograph your family! I've compiled a list of frequently asked questions when it comes to preparing for lifestyle family session. If you don't see your question answered, feel free to reach out to me at any time at lauren@laurenlouisephotography.com :)

What Should We Wear?

The most important thing to feel during your family session is comfortable and yourself. You want your clothing and accessories to reflect you and your family’s personality and style!

A good rule of thumb is to choose a color palette with three colors, and to stay away from over-matching. I always advise my families to coordinate colors and patterns together. For example, if you’ve decided to put your little one in a patterned dress then the adults might want to stick to solids, or vice versa- like this family to the right!

Choose a color palette that’s vibrant but understated and stay away from distracting logos. I also suggest layering your outfits to create some diversity in your images. Accessories that you can take on and off help, as well- this tends to work better for the parents than the kids. Kiddos don't tend to enjoy outfit changes ;)

My Kids Don't Smile for Pictures- Any Tips?

I know this isn't probably what you want to hear, but kids are unpredictable, and it's best to set a realistic expectation. The best tip I can give you is to stay flexible and calm. If you start to get upset, chances are, your little ones will sense it which will only make the environment more stressful for everyone. Try to come to your session with bellies full and naps had to avoid extra distractions and stress.

Where should we take The Photos?

If you want your kids to stay stress-free, plan the session around a location or an activity that they actually enjoy doing! I'm a documentary style photographer, which means I document you and your family, rather than rely heavily on directing and posing. Kids tend to do better in an environment they're used to or a place they enjoy being themselves.  Let them have fun!

What if the weather doesn't cooperate?

Kids love to puddle jump, right? As long as the weather isn't bad enough to harm my equipment, I'm always happy to get a little wet, and I always bring a set of clear umbrellas, if necessary. If, however, the weather is too bad or you don't think your kiddos will enjoy themselves, we can always reschedule for a nicer day.

What should we bring?

Pocket books and big diaper bags can be a pain to lug around and don't look great in pictures, and since I'm there to document your family, even the in-between moments, it's best that these items be left in the car. Just bring yourselves and a positive attitude!
