This past week I got to head back to my hometown of Bellport, New York to photograph Angelina and Michael's waterfront engagement session at Ho Hum Beach. This is the beach I grew up going to as a kid- we'd take the ferry over with all of our friends and spend the day swatting away green flies , sunbathing, and building sand castles. It was such a treat to spend a couple of hours there with this gorgeous couple (and major kudos to them for following all of my tips and tricks in preparation for their session!) If you're one of my couples and you haven't read through my Engagement Session Prep Guide yet, be sure to do so a few weeks before your session! I promise you, it will make ALL the difference! <3
I really love it when my couples opt for an at-home engagement session, like Aileen + Clinton did! Lucky for me, this Washington DC couple has a beautiful home, great style and an adorable pup; all the fixings for a perfect at-home lifestyle photo session.
I love being able to document my couples doing real life stuff- whether that means opening a bottle of wine and making dinner together or simply hanging out on the couch, unwinding to their favorite Spotify playlist. Creating photographs in this type of environment allows me to get up-close and personal with my couples and to capture more genuine and authentic every day moments for them to remember. And even if they end up moving or this isn't their forever home, they'll be able to look back at these photos and remember where their story began before they were married.
I am really looking forward to photographing Heather + Adam's intimate winter wedding in Virginia later this year! For their engagement session, we started out walking around their neighborhood with a quick pit stop at Wydown for some coffee. Heather wanted to capture a bit of their every day life together while Adam wanted some of the more quintessential Washington DC portraits near the capitol, where he works. The two compromised and did a little bit of both (because that's what marriage is about, right??) and ended with the most epic (and unexpected, since it was so darn cloudy all day!) sunset on our walk back to their apartment. Enjoy!
PS- Heather is a super awesome blogger here in DC and shared a bit about how her and Adam chose their wedding photographer (me!) Take a look!
