Back in October I traveled out to the west coast to photograph Deb + Zach's Portland Oregon wedding at Coopers Hall, a winery and taproom downtown. But for me, this story starts about seven years ago...Before I ever knew that I wanted a career in wedding photography, a friend of mine got married in Brooklyn. I had been shooting for a couple of years in college, but I was without direction or style and I usually scoffed at the idea of being a wedding photographer. But a few weeks after the wedding, my friend shared her wedding photographs with me, and I realized that wedding photography didn't have to posed and mechanical. I realized that I could shoot weddings how I wanted to, organically and authentically; that I could document a story instead of direct one. The photographer at my friend's wedding, Kara, ended up one of my biggest inspirations and mentors early on in my career and is also this particalur bride's very best friend. Since Kara was in the wedding, she was kind enough to introduce Deb and I over e-mail and we quickly connected. This is one of my favorite weddings to date, and also one of the loveliest cities I've traveled to this year for weddings. Enjoy!
